Kyle Samani: Solana's Future, Genius Act, Crypto's "ChatGPT Moment" and More | TG Podcast

The Signal

Multicoin Capital's Kyle Samani joins Threadguy to argue that Solana's real upside is not another memecoin cycle but a shift toward internet capital markets: equities, payments, and social products moving onchain. He is skeptical of treasury-company copycats and content coins, but sees the Genius Act and new trading interfaces creating a much larger addressable market over the next several years.

Key Takeaways

  • 01

    CONTENT NEEDS LIQUIDITY

Samani thinks Zora's content-coin unit is too fragmented: tweets and images are infinite. He sees a better chance where liquidity gathers around a live stream, memecoin, or another object with real-time creator feedback.

  • 02

    TREASURIES NEED A JOB

A Solana treasury vehicle is not automatically valuable. Samani says the interesting version would own wallets or apps with usage-linked revenue and operational synergies; otherwise investors may prefer a staking ETF or spot exposure.

  • 03

    THE SOLANA CASE IS BIGGER

For Solana to grow from roughly a $100 billion market cap toward far larger numbers, he says investors have to believe in onchain equities, bank payments, B2B flows, and social-network integration—not merely a return of peak memecoin volume.

  • 04

    REGULATION OPENS DISTRIBUTION

Samani frames the Genius Act as both dollar distribution and a path to native stablecoin support in phones. His imagined adoption moment is a giant platform rolling stablecoin payments out to billions of people.

  • 05

    TRADE THE INTERFACE

Multicoin is looking for products that embed trading in new places: multiplayer bots, swipe-based trading, and prediction markets inside relevant news. Crypto rails make those interfaces possible because they are global and permissionless.

On the Record

For this thing to get to 500 billion to a trillion, in those kinds of dollar figures, you have to believe in internet capital markets. That means you have tons of equities issued onchain, banks settling payments onchain, B2B transactions flowing over this thing, and major social networks integrating crypto in a fundamental way.

I think more likely what that looks like is Facebook rolls out stablecoin payments to four billion people overnight.

This is really only possible on crypto rails because traditional financial rails were so cumbersome that you just couldn't embed trading and money into all of these new places. And crypto is permissionless and global.

The core insight behind that is haters don't matter. What are you going to do? Short me? It doesn't do anything. But if you like what I'm saying, then you can reach out. Some of those people end up working at Multicoin; some I end up investing in; some invest in my fund.

The Breakdown

Solana from the first check

Samani starts with Multicoin's early Solana investment and the fund's continuing activity in the ecosystem. He says the firm manages a few billion dollars across a hedge fund and a series of venture funds, and led several financing rounds from Solana's beginning through its token launch. A computer-scientist father got him into C++, Visual Studio, SQL Server, then Java; he says he was a sloppy programmer who hated testing, but kept the technical way of thinking even after leaving code editors behind.

Why content coins feel noisy

On Pump.fun, Zora, and launchcoin-style products, Samani argues that a content coin is the wrong atomic unit. A picture or tweet has endless supply, while a live stream can concentrate attention and create feedback between creator and price. The rules differ from memecoins, he says, but being early and understanding who already owns the asset still matter.

Ethereum's bid and the DAT question

He credits Ethereum's recent strength to treasury-company flows and the perception among traditional finance that Ethereum is the dominant chain, especially for stablecoin issuance. But he says Solana leads elsewhere, including stablecoin movement, trading volume, and daily users. Treasury companies that do nothing beyond holding an asset may eventually unwind when shareholders choose cheaper direct exposure. The more compelling version, he says, would roll up wallets or apps whose revenue is tied to chain usage, then find operating synergies between them.

The internet-capital-markets bet

A staking ETF may attract yield buyers, but Samani says the long-term buyer is underwriting Solana as the fastest horse for DeFi. The bigger thesis requires equities, banks, B2B transactions, and major social networks onchain. He compares today's comprehension gap to the internet in 1998: a few years before most people could feel why it would change everything.

A stablecoin moment, not one new app

Rather than a single ChatGPT-like product, Samani expects a distribution shock: Facebook enabling stablecoin payments for four billion people, or iOS and Android supporting them natively. He says the Genius Act makes it easier to move into dollars globally and that the market cannot fully price all the secondary and tertiary consequences before the timing is known.

Upgrading money and trading

Samani calls crypto the first fundamental upgrade to money in roughly 2,000 years, with programmable rules extending the old idea of contracts. His current investment focus is new trading modalities: Telegram bots were an early break from the standard brokerage search-chart-buy flow; now products are experimenting with multiplayer play, swipes, and markets embedded in context.

Conviction and a practical sign-off

His stated edge is indifference to critics: a provocative view can attract employees, founders, and fund investors without giving detractors a way to hurt the firm. He says he has never personally sold a Solana token. For viewers trying to get ahead, his straightforward recommendation is to join a crypto startup early—ideally before it has 10 to 15 employees—and swing hard.
